A pair of moving heads is the lighting upgrade that turns “music playing” into “this is a club.” The MH-100 is the entry-tier — cheap to replace, robust enough for villa use, and works in sound-active mode out of the box (no DMX programming required).
Plug into mains, point at the dance floor, switch on. They’ll sync to the music automatically and sweep beams across the room.
Add something for the beams to cut through
An 8° beam in clean air lands as a moving circle on a wall — you don’t see the shaft between the fixture and the wall, which is the bit everyone actually wants. Fix that with either:
- Antari Z-350 Fazer — set it low at the start of the night and forget it. The better option if the heads run for hours.
- Antari Z-1500 smoke machine — big visible clouds on demand, better for a specific moment than for a whole evening. The compact Z-1000X MK3 suits a smaller indoor room.
When something else is better
- You want the beams to actually be bright — at 36× 3W per fixture these are honestly entry-level, and in a room with any ambient light they fade. The Cameo MOVO BEAM Z 100 pair runs a 60W OSRAM LED each with a 4°-30° zoom and is the fixture to book when “looks like a club” is the actual brief.
- You want wide colour, not narrow beams — the Eurolite TMH-X4 zoom wash pair floods RGBW across a terrace instead. Better outdoors, where there’s usually no haze to hold a beam.
- Nothing else lighting the room — beams leave everything dark between sweeps. Book the 4× LED PAR uplight set as the base layer first; moving heads are the layer on top.
- A cheaper visual moment — a 30cm mirror ball hung over the floor with a PAR pointed at it costs a fraction of this and reads better at a wedding than sweeping beams do.
