The Sennheiser EW-D wireless handheld is great for toasts and MCing. The lavalier version is what you actually want for speeches, ceremonies, officiating — where the speaker needs both hands free or doesn’t want to hold a mic to their face.

What to plug the receiver into
The receiver’s output is XLR, so it wants a speaker with a combo or XLR input:
- Bose S1 Pro+ — two combo XLR/TRS inputs and an 11-hour battery. The usual answer for a ceremony on a terrace or a lawn with no power.
- JBL EON ONE MK2 — if the same speaker also has to carry the party afterwards; its 5-channel mixer takes the mic and a DJ controller at once.
- Mackie Thump 215 pair — for a larger ceremony where guests are spread out and one box won’t cover them.
When a different mic is the right one
- Karaoke, MCing, passing the mic around a table — a lavalier belongs to one person. Use the handheld EW-D for anything that gets handed over, and keep a Shure SM58 as the backup that has no battery to die.
- The point is the video, not the PA — the Rode Wireless GO II has two transmitters that record onboard, so the speech survives even if the receiver loses the link. Worth it if someone is filming the ceremony properly.
